Mr. Levun is a partner and one of the founders of Levun, Goodman & Cohen. In addition to his role as a full-time practicing tax and business attorney, Mr. Levun is an author and educator who has developed a national reputation in the field of taxation and has served as the Chairman of the Partnerships Committee of the American Bar Association’s Section of Taxation and the Chairman of both the Chicago Bar Association’s Committee on Federal Taxation and the Federal Taxation Section Council of the Illinois State Bar Association. Mr. Levun has been practicing law since 1970, focusing on a business and tax practice, with a concentration in the representation of closely held businesses and wealthy individuals, business structuring and estate planning. Mr. Levun is also a tax consultant to numerous CPA and law firms across the country.
Mr. Levun is also significantly involved in educating other business and tax professionals. He has been the consultant to the CCH Partnership Tax Planning and Practice Guide since its inception in 1988 and is the author of the monthly “Partner’s Perspective” column that accompanies the Guide. Mr. Levun was also the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Passthrough Entities for the entire term of its publication (1998-2019) and is an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Illinois Institute of Technology/Chicago Kent College of Law Graduate Tax Program where he teaches advanced partnership taxation. In addition, since its inception in 1987, Mr. Levun has been the co-creator and Chairman of the Faculty of the annual Partnership, LLC & S Corporation Tax Planning Forum, co-sponsored by the Illinois CPA Society. The Forum is a two-day, intensive tax planning seminar for professionals, offered in six different locations across the country. Forum participants engage in in-depth discussion with the presenters about recent developments and strategies and leave with up-to-date knowledge of cutting-edge tax and business planning techniques. And since its inception in 1996, Mr. Levun has also been the co-creator and Chairman of the Faculty of the annual “Fundamentals of Flow-Through” Partnership, LLC & S Corporation Tax Seminar, also co-sponsored by the Illinois CPA Society. This two-day seminar, which is presented in three locations across the country, is designed for professionals who would like a solid grounding in these essential topics or who just want to brush up on their existing knowledge of these fundamentals. Through the Forum and the “Fundamentals of Flow-Through” Tax Seminar, Mr. Levun has developed a nationwide business and tax consulting practice and also creates and presents tax seminars to institutional and private organizations throughout the United States.
